Twitter’s famous bird logo, which symbolized the platform for years, was recently auctioned off for $34,375 (approximately ₹28 lakh) at RR Auction.
The iconic blue bird logo, which was removed from Twitter’s former headquarters in San Francisco after Elon Musk’s acquisition and rebranding of the platform to “X,” was sold as a rare collectible.
The logo, weighing 560 pounds (254 kg) and measuring 12 feet by 9 feet (3.7 meters by 2.7 meters), fetched a significant price at the auction.
However, the identity of the buyer has not been disclosed.
Background on Twitter’s Rebranding to X
In 2022, Tesla CEO Elon Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion, with the intention of transforming it into an “everything app.”
In 2023, Musk announced that the Twitter brand, along with its iconic bird logo, would be phased out as part of the transition to “X.”This rebranding was part of Musk’s broader vision to reshape the platform.
Despite this shift, investors, including Fidelity Investments, have significantly written down the value of their Twitter investments due to challenges in maintaining advertising revenue after the acquisition.
Other Items Auctioned by Musk
Before this, Musk had also auctioned off various items related to Twitter, including former logos, office furniture, and kitchen utensils.
Musk, who has a long-standing interest in the letter “X,” founded a new AI company called “xAI” with the aim of “understanding the true nature of the universe.”
The auction of the bird logo marks the latest chapter in the rebranding of Twitter to X, symbolizing the end of an era for the social media platform.
