TVS Motor Company, the country’s leading electric two-wheeler maker, has launched a new variant of its electric scooter called the TVS Orbiter V1.
This new model comes with a smaller 1.8kWh battery, making it the most affordable electric scooter in the brand’s EV lineup.
The company has also introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, giving customers a flexible ownership model. With the BaaS option, the Orbiter V1 starts at Rs 49,999 (ex-showroom, including PM e-Drive benefits).
Battery, Range and Charging Time
The Orbiter V1 uses a 1.8kWh battery pack that delivers an IDC range of 86 km on a single charge. In comparison, the earlier model, now called the TVS Orbiter V2, comes with a 3.1kWh battery and offers an IDC range of 158 km.
Because the V1 has a smaller battery, the overall range is lower. However, it also charges faster.
Orbiter V1: 0–80% charge in 2 hours and 20 minutes
Orbiter V2: Full battery charging takes about 4 hours and 10 minutes
Design and Features
In terms of design and equipment, the Orbiter V1 is largely similar to the Orbiter V2. It comes with a 14-inch front wheel and a 12-inch rear wheel setup.
The scooter also features an LCD digital cluster that provides turn-by-turn navigation, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and safety alerts.
Alerts include notifications for anti-theft, crashes, and geo-fencing, all connected through a mobile app.
Other features include:
Eco and Power ride modes
Hill Hold Assist
Parking Assist with reverse function
Cruise control
The scooter also keeps the same 845mm long flat seat and 34-litre under-seat storage, offering good comfort and practicality.
Technology and Connectivity
The Orbiter V1 includes several smart features designed to improve safety and convenience:
Proactive Safety: Crash, fall, anti-theft, geo-fencing, and time-fencing alerts
Remote Control: Check battery charge and odometer through the mobile app
Smart Navigation: Turn-by-turn guidance with customizable settings
Connectivity: Call, SMS, and personalized alerts on the LCD display
Rider Assistance: Hill Hold Assist, Cruise Control, and Parking Assist
OTA Updates: Easy software updates over the air
Dual Ride Modes: Eco and Power with regenerative braking for better range and safety
Battery-as-a-Service Option
TVS Motor Company has also introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model for its EV scooters. Under this system, customers can subscribe to battery usage instead of paying the full battery cost upfront.
The company says subscription plans start at Rs 862 per month for three years. This plan also includes:
Extended warranty up to 5 years or 70,000 km
Unlimited monthly usage
Customers who choose to buy the Orbiter V1 without the BaaS plan will need to pay Rs 84,500 (ex-showroom). This makes it around Rs 15,000 cheaper than the Orbiter V2.
