Train Travel to Get Expensive from July 1 – Fare Hike on All Routes

Indian Railways Latest Update: There is important news for people who travel by train. Starting July 1, 2025, train fares are set to increase slightly, making travel more expensive for passengers.

According to sources, Indian Railways is planning to implement a small hike in ticket prices for various categories of trains.

How Much Will Train Fares Increase?

As per the proposal:

In ordinary mail/express trains (Non-AC), ticket prices will increase by 1 paisa per kilometer.

In AC class trains, fares will rise by 2 paisa per kilometer.

This means passengers will now have to pay slightly more depending on the distance and travel class.

What About Passenger Trains and Short Journeys?

There will be no change in the fare for:

Ordinary second-class coaches for journeys up to 500 km

Suburban trains

Monthly season tickets (MST)

However, for second-class travel beyond 500 km, the fare will increase by half a paisa per kilometer.

When Will the New Fares Apply?

If approved, these revised fares will come into effect from July 1, 2025. The move is said to be aimed at meeting the rising costs of operations while ensuring that the hike remains minimal and affordable for the common man.

So if you’re planning a train journey soon, be prepared for a small increase in your ticket cost, especially if you’re traveling by AC or over longer distances in mail/express trains.
