However, many people are unaware of these rules. If you often travel by train, especially for long distances, this information is important for you.

Break Journey Rule: Travel Flexibly on the Same Ticket

Indian Railways has an interesting rule that allows passengers to take a break during their journey.

If you buy a train ticket for more than 1000 km, you can take a break journey after traveling at least 500 km.

For example, if you have a ticket for a 600 km journey, you can stop once for up to 2 days after completing 500 km and continue your journey on the same ticket.

How to Use This Facility?

If you are traveling over 500 km on a mail or express train with a single journey ticket, you can stop at any station in between for up to 2 days before continuing your trip.

However, this rule does not apply to Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Jan Shatabdi Express trains.

Also, you cannot take a break journey before covering at least 500 km from your starting station.

For example, if your total journey is 800 km, you cannot stop at a station after just 423 km.

Steps to Avail the Break Journey Facility

1) Get off at any station between your starting and destination stations.

2) Inform the ticket collector or station master and get your ticket approved.

3) After your break (maximum of 2 days), resume your journey from the same station.

4) At the final destination, you must deposit your ticket.

This rule can be very helpful for travelers who want to explore places along their route without purchasing separate tickets.

Make sure to check with railway officials for any updates on the rule before planning your journey!
