New Delhi:
Toyota Kirloskar India has announced the temporary suspension of the supply of three of its popular models, namely Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Hilux.
This decision comes in response to irregularities found in the certification tests of the diesel engines used in these vehicles.
The company assures that this move is a precautionary measure, and it is actively working to resolve the issues identified in the testing process.
Certification Test Irregularities Prompt Halt in Supply
Irregularities related to the certification tests, specifically concerning horsepower output, were discovered by Toyota Industries Corporation, an affiliate of Toyota Motor Corporation.
These irregularities impact the diesel engines used in the mentioned models, including those sold in India.
Global Impact and Temporary Halt for Verification
Globally, a total of 10 models utilize these affected engines, with six models based in Japan. While the irregularities pertain to engine power and torque, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) emphasizes that there have been no exaggerated claims in terms of horsepower or other engine-related matters.
The irregularities, however, have prompted Toyota to temporarily stop the supply of the affected vehicles.
No Compromise on Emissions or Safety
TKM ensures customers that the irregularities have no impact on the emissions or safety of the vehicles. Toyota is actively collaborating with relevant authorities to re-verify the data used in the certification process.
TKM will continue to accept new orders for the affected models, while existing customers are assured that their vehicles remain unaffected.
Apology to Customers and Stakeholders
Expressing regret for any inconvenience caused,
TKM apologizes to customers and stakeholders for the concerns arising from these irregularities.
The company is committed to transparent communication regarding the status of cars already sent to dealers but not yet delivered to customers.
Existing customers are reassured that there is no compromise on the performance, emissions, or safety of their vehicles.
