Toyota is preparing to launch the 2026 Hilux in India on July 28.
The updated pickup truck was first unveiled globally in November last year and now arrives with a fresh design, a more modern cabin, and several new features.
Although the Hilux gets many updates, Toyota has retained the trusted IMV ladder-frame platform.
This means buyers can continue to expect the strong off-road performance that the Hilux is known for.
Bold New Look on the Outside
The biggest changes can be seen at the front of the pickup.
The new Hilux gets a sleek gloss black strip with large TOYOTA lettering connecting the headlamps.
The old large hexagonal grille has been replaced with a cleaner body-coloured design, giving the pickup a more modern appearance.
Toyota has also redesigned the front bumper with sharper lines and added a new skid plate, making the Hilux look even more rugged.
From the side, the overall design remains familiar, but the wheel arches appear sharper and the pickup is expected to get newly designed alloy wheels.
At the rear, Toyota is likely to introduce updated LED tail lamps, a redesigned bumper, and bold TOYOTA lettering on the tailgate. New exterior colour options are also expected.
Cabin Gets a Major Upgrade
Inside, the 2026 Hilux offers a more premium and modern cabin.
The dashboard has been completely redesigned with cleaner lines, while the steering wheel and centre console have also been updated.
One of the biggest highlights is the addition of two 12.3-inch displays.
One serves as the infotainment touchscreen, while the other functions as a fully digital instrument cluster.
Toyota has also kept physical buttons for commonly used controls, making the system easier to operate while driving.
Other expected features include:
Dual-zone climate control
Powered and ventilated front seats
Wireless phone charging
360-degree camera
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with radar-based safety features
Engine Expected to Remain the Same
Mechanically, the new Hilux is expected to continue with the 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine.
The engine produces 204 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque.
Buyers will have the option of either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota has also strengthened the chassis, which is expected to improve ride comfort, stability, and overall handling.
Will India Get the Hybrid or Electric Hilux?
Toyota has not yet confirmed whether the India-spec Hilux will receive the 48V mild-hybrid system already offered with the Fortuner Neo Drive.
The company also sells an all-electric Hilux in some international markets.
It features a 59.2 kWh battery pack, dual electric motors, and a claimed driving range of around 260 km (WLTP).
However, there is no official confirmation about the launch of the electric version in India.
Expected Price and Rivals
With its updated styling, improved interior, and additional technology, the new Hilux is expected to be priced slightly higher than the current model.
The existing Toyota Hilux is priced between ₹28.52 lakh and ₹36 lakh (ex-showroom).
After launch, it will continue to compete with the Isuzu V-Cross in the Indian pickup truck market.
