By the end of this year, you may not need to stop at certain toll plazas in the country.
The government is introducing a new system called the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system, where toll charges will be deducted automatically as vehicles pass through.
How the MLFF System Will Work
Under the MLFF system, vehicles can drive through toll plazas without halting.
FASTag, RFID, and ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras will be installed at entry and exit points. These devices will detect the vehicle and process toll payments electronically.
Automatic Toll Deduction and Notices
Toll dues will be automatically deducted from the FASTag account within 7 days. If payment is not made in time, the vehicle owner will receive an e-notice.
There will also be an option to pay the toll online. If no action is taken, a reminder notice will be sent.
Where the System Will Be Launched First
In the first phase, MLFF will be launched at the following toll plazas:
Choryasi
Gharaunda
Nemili
Bijwasan
Panchgaon
Manoharpura
Shahjahanpur
Daulatpura
UER-II
Initial Rollout for Commercial Vehicles
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will manage the MLFF system. It will first be rolled out for commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses.
Later, the system will be extended to private vehicles. This gradual rollout will help fix technical issues and allow users to adapt smoothly.
No More Physical Toll Plazas
For the first time, a bank will be in charge of toll tax collection under the MLFF system. This marks a major change in how toll is collected in India.
There will be no physical toll booths and no toll staff. Instead, sensors and cameras on poles will collect vehicle data and send it to the electronic system, where the toll will be automatically deducted.
