For the upcoming Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to make seven major highways toll-free for 40 days.
This exemption applies only to private vehicles, while toll taxes will still be charged to commercial and heavy vehicles.
Special Arrangements for the Kumbh Mela
Around 40 crore devotees are expected to attend the 2025 Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. To make travel easier
and reduce traffic congestion, the government has waived toll taxes on certain highways.
The authorities have also made special arrangements, including building a tent city, improving security, and managing traffic efficiently.
Central Government’s Decision on Toll-Free Highways
The Uttar Pradesh government requested the Central Government to waive toll taxes for the convenience of devotees attending the Kumbh Mela.
The central government agreed and decided to not collect toll on the entry routes to Prayagraj during the event.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started implementing this decision.
Toll-Free Plazas for Private Vehicles
During the Kumbh Mela, private vehicle owners will not have to pay toll fees at seven toll plazas.
Around 40% of the devotees are expected to travel in their private vehicles. However, toll taxes for heavy and commercial vehicles will remain unchanged.

1) Umapur Toll Plaza on Chitrakoot Highway
2) Ganne Toll Plaza on Rewa Highway
3) Mungari Toll Plaza on Mirzapur Road
4) Handia Toll Plaza on Varanasi Road
5) Kokhraj Toll Plaza on Kanpur Road
6) Andhiari Toll Plaza on Lucknow Highway
7) Mauaima Toll Plaza on Ayodhya Highway
Improving Facilities for Devotees
A city of tents is being set up in Prayagraj for the 2025 Maha Kumbh, providing a unique experience for visitors.
Along with better security and healthcare, traffic systems will be improved.
Some routes will be made one-way to prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement of people during the event.
