Toll Free at Bhuni Plaza After Army Soldier Assault: Contractor Fined, License Cancelled

A serious incident occurred at Bhuni Toll Plaza on the Meerut-Karnal Highway in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday night, which has led to major developments.

At around 8 PM, Kapil, a soldier in the Indian Army and a resident of Gotka village in Meerut, was assaulted by toll staff after a heated argument.

Kapil was on his way to catch a flight after returning home for leave during the Kanwar fair.

The assault shocked locals and the entire state after the video of the incident went viral on social media. The Indian Army expressed strong displeasure and demanded strict action. In response, both police and administration acted swiftly.

Toll Made Free, Contract Cancelled

On Tuesday, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced that Bhuni Toll Plaza has been made completely toll-free.

Toll collection contract with Dharam Singh & Company has been canceled

The company has been debarred for one year

A fine of Rs 20 lakh was imposed on the toll operator

Vehicles can now pass freely without paying toll on this route

Public Outrage and Protests

After the video surfaced, hundreds of locals gathered at the toll plaza and staged a protest, demanding immediate action. Public anger intensified as details of the assault became known.

Police Action and NSA Charges

The Meerut Police quickly arrested seven people involved in the incident. A case has been registered under serious criminal charges, including attempt to murder.
