Tesla has long planned to introduce a more affordable car by creating a basic version of its popular electric SUV, the Model Y, made in the US.
However, it has now been revealed that production has been delayed. Tesla had initially promised to launch the affordable vehicle in the first half of this year, aiming to boost sales.
But production hasn’t started yet, and the reason for the delay is still unknown.
When will production of Tesla’s affordable SUV begin?
Tesla’s low-cost Model Y, codenamed E41, is expected to begin production in the US.
However, the start date, according to Tesla’s public plan, has now been pushed back, possibly to late 2025 or even 2026.
Tesla’s Goal:
Tesla aims to produce 250,000 units of the cheaper Model Y in the US in 2026. Production will eventually expand to China and Europe.
Last month, it was reported that the E41 will be launched in China in 2026. The vehicle will be smaller and 20% cheaper to produce than the refreshed Model Y.
The timeline for its launch in Europe is still undecided. Additionally, Tesla is also planning to introduce a basic version of its Model 3 compact sedan, which will have fewer features.
