Telecom Companies to share 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G Network Data with Customers

Starting from October 1, telecom companies will be required to show which services (2G, 3G, 4G, or 5G) are available in different areas on their websites.

This new rule, focused on improving service quality, will make it easier for customers to find out what network services are offered in specific locations.

Currently, there is no easy way for customers to know which telecom service is available in each area.

Often, a single company may offer 5G service in a city, while in smaller towns, it might only provide 2G service.

Telecom companies will now be required to share information about various quality standards of their services on their websites.

Previously, this information was not made publicly available by telecom companies.

TRAI will gather data on call drops

To address the network issues of telecom companies, the performance of mobile services will now be monitored monthly, starting in April next year.

Currently, this performance is assessed every quarter. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will gather data on network availability, call drops, and voice quality to provide detailed insights into mobile performance.

TRAI has instructed all telecom companies to improve their online systems for monitoring service quality.

Last month, TRAI announced a unified regulation that replaces the Cellular Mobile Telephone Service Regulations 2009, Wireless Data Quality Service Regulations 2012, and Broadband Service Regulations 2006. This new regulation will take effect from October 1.

Rules will change starting October 1

Under the new service quality rules, only messages with secure URLs and OTT links can be sent for communication starting October 1.

TRAI has also directed that all telemarketing calls beginning with the 140 series must transition to a digital laser platform by September 30 for easier monitoring.
