The Telangana Transport Department has introduced a major reform that allows new vehicle buyers to complete permanent registration directly at automobile showrooms.
This initiative, starting 24 January 2026, is part of the state’s push to make transport services more citizen-friendly and reduce unnecessary bureaucracy.
What’s Changing for Vehicle Buyers
Under the new Dealer Point Registration System, buyers of new cars and two-wheelers purchased from authorised dealerships no longer need to visit RTO or RTA offices for registration.
Previously, this step involved multiple visits, document checks, and long waiting times.
Now, authorised dealership staff will:
Submit the online registration application for the buyer.
Upload all required documents, including invoices, Form 21 & 22, insurance details, address proof, and vehicle photos.
Forward the application to the Transport Department for verification.
Receive the registration number digitally and send the Registration Certificate (RC) to the owner’s address by speed post.
Why This Change Matters
The new system eliminates long queues and repeated visits to RTO offices.
By shifting the process to showrooms, Telangana aims to:
Save time for vehicle buyers.
Reduce congestion at transport offices.
Increase transparency by moving document submission and verification online.
The system was successfully tested in a Hyderabad showroom during the pilot phase, where a car was fully registered and delivered without the buyer visiting an RTO.
Scope and Limitations
Currently, the system applies only to personal vehicles purchased on or after 24 January — cars and two-wheelers.
Commercial vehicles, such as taxis, trucks, or autos, still need to follow the traditional RTO registration process.
Transport department officials will continue to verify applications online, and random inspections may be conducted at authorised dealerships to ensure compliance and accuracy.
What This Means for Telangana
By adopting dealer-point registration, Telangana is embracing digital governance and making public services more citizen-centric.
For buyers, this reform means a seamless journey from showroom purchase to road-ready ownership, saving time and effort.
With hundreds of thousands of new vehicles registered every year, this change will significantly improve convenience and efficiency for vehicle owners across the state.
