Mumbai:
For the first time in their 54-year history, Tata Motors’ premium SUVs, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, will be produced outside of Britain.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), owned by Tata Motors, will begin local production of these iconic models in India, leading to a significant price reduction.
Jaguar Land Rover, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, has announced that it will start manufacturing the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in India.
Previously, these models were produced exclusively at JLR’s Solihull plant in Britain and exported to 121 markets worldwide, including India.
With the shift to local production, the prices of these SUVs are expected to drop by 18-22%.
Strategic Move Praised by Tata Group
Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran highlighted the significance of this move and praised Tata Sons Honorary Chairman Ratan Tata for acquiring the JLR brand 15 years ago.
Chandrasekaran expressed pride in this milestone, stating, “Range Rover will be manufactured right here in India, it is a great feeling. This is a very special moment and I feel proud of it.”
Boost in JLR Sales Expected
Chandrasekaran believes this strategic step will boost JLR’s sales in India, expressing confidence in the future growth of the company.
JLR India Managing Director Rajan Amba also emphasized the importance of local production, noting that it will make the flagship models more accessible to a broader range of customers.
Amba remarked, “For the first time in the company’s history, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will now be produced in India.
This is a big announcement for us as these are our flagship vehicles and in their 54-year history, they have been produced only in Solihull.”
Significant Sales Increase
JLR India’s retail sales in the financial year 2023-24 reached 4,436 units, marking an impressive 81% increase.
The local production of these premium SUVs is expected to further drive sales growth in the Indian market.
