Switch Gas Companies Without Buying New Connection (Know Details)

If you are unhappy with the service of your current LPG supplier, whether it’s the company or the dealer, there’s good news.

Soon, you may be able to switch your LPG connection to another company without having to buy a new one — just like porting a mobile number.

What is LPG Portability?

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) is working on a scheme called ‘LPG Portability’.

Under this system, consumers will be able to order gas cylinders from any company of their choice, instead of being restricted to a single supplier.

How Was It Earlier?

In October 2013, the then UPA government launched a pilot portability scheme in 24 districts across 13 states, later expanding it to 480 districts in January 2014.

But at that time, consumers could only change their dealer, not the company.

Laws then required cylinders from one oil company to be refilled only by the same company, making portability across companies legally impossible.

PNGRB is now preparing to change these rules.

Why is This Change Important?

In many areas, gas dealers fail to deliver cylinders on time or provide poor service. Consumers had no alternative but to wait. With the new system, customers will get full freedom to choose between Indane, Bharat Gas, or HP Gas, based on service quality.

What Happens Next?

PNGRB has invited suggestions from the public, gas distributors, and organizations.

After reviewing feedback, new rules for LPG portability will be finalized and implemented nationwide.

How Will You Benefit?

Switch companies easily if service is poor.

Gas prices are almost the same across companies.

Expect better service and faster delivery.

Consumers gain more freedom and flexibility.

Simply put, the new rules will allow you to decide not just when to refill your cylinder, but also which company supplies it.

If you want to share your opinion, you can send your suggestions through the PNGRB website.
