Stock Market to Remain Closed on January 15, 2026

The upcoming municipal elections in Maharashtra will have an impact on the stock market.

As a result, trading will be suspended on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

In its latest circular, the NSE announced that January 15 will now be a full-day trading holiday for the capital market segment.

Earlier, this day was marked only as a settlement holiday. However, after the revised order, the stock market will remain completely closed on this date.

Trading Segments That Will Be Closed

According to the new notification, there will be no trading on both BSE and NSE on January 15. The following segments will remain closed:

Equity

Equity derivatives

Securities lending and borrowing

Currency derivatives

Interest rate derivatives

In addition, the commodity derivatives segment will not have a morning trading session on this day.

As per the holiday calendar released by the NSE, the stock market will remain closed on several occasions throughout 2026.

Holidays from January to June 2026

January 26 – Republic Day

March 3 – Holi

March 26 – Shri Ram Navami

March 31 – Shri Mahavir Jayanti

April 3 – Good Friday

April 14 – Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti

May 1 – Maharashtra Day

May 28 – Bakrid

June 26 – Muharram

Holidays in the Second Half of 2026

September 14 – Ganesh Chaturthi

October 2 – Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti

October 20 – Dussehra

November 10 – Diwali Balipratipada

November 24 – Prakash Parv (Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji)

December 25 – Christmas Day

Apart from these holidays, the stock market will also remain closed every Saturday and Sunday as part of regular weekly holidays.
