SpiceJet Seaplane Routes: 20 Locations Planned Across India

SpiceJet is preparing to operate seaplane services on 20 key routes, including Lakshadweep, Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Shillong.

The airline has been involved in seaplane trials across the country, working closely with de Havilland for engineering, technical, and logistical support.

Ajay Singh highlighted the potential of seaplanes to boost India’s regional connectivity by providing access to some of the country’s most remote and beautiful locations.

Overcoming Infrastructure Challenges with Seaplanes

India’s first scheduled seaplane service was launched by SpiceJet in October 2020, connecting Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Riverfront to the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat.

Although the service was paused in April 2021 due to the pandemic’s second wave, SpiceJet is ready to revive the project.

Avni Singh, CEO of Spice Shuttle, emphasized that seaplanes could be a “game-changer” for India, particularly for regions with challenging infrastructure.

She noted that seaplanes offer a unique solution to connect coastlines, islands, and remote inland areas, bringing both connectivity and enjoyment to these regions.
