Amazon Introduces a Processing Fee
Amazon has added a Rs 49 processing fee for customers using instant bank discounts (IBD) of Rs 500 or more.
This change started yesterday and applies to all customers, including Prime members. As a result, customers will see a reduction in their overall savings, potentially altering their online shopping habits.
Details of the New Fee
The new Rs 49 fee will apply to bank discounts of Rs 500 or more. This fee is non-refundable, meaning it will not be returned if the order is canceled or returned.
Amazon explains this fee is necessary to cover the costs of managing and processing the bank discounts. Flipkart already has a similar policy in place.
Impact on Discount Savings
Previously, if a customer used a bank discount of Rs 500 on a Rs 5,000 purchase, they would pay Rs 4,500.
Now, with the new processing fee, they will need to pay Rs 4,549, reducing their savings.
No Fee for Smaller Discounts
If the bank discount is less than Rs 500, there will be no additional Rs 49 processing fee.
This policy will apply to all customers, regardless of whether they are Amazon Prime members or not.
Effect on Customers
According to Amazon’s help center, the processing fee will not be refunded under any circumstances.
This new policy may encourage customers to adjust their shopping habits—either by purchasing below the Rs 500 discount threshold or exploring other payment options to avoid the fee.
Who Will Be Affected?
Customers using bank discounts of Rs 500 or more will be charged the Rs 49 fee.
Even Amazon Prime members are not exempt from this fee. No fee will apply for discounts under Rs 500.
