Schengen Visa Becomes Costlier for Indians

If you are planning a trip to Europe, this update is important for you. Getting a Schengen visa has now become more expensive for Indians.

VFS Global, the agency that handles visa applications for European countries, has recently increased its service fee.

This is the first hike since 2023. The timing is significant because many Indians usually plan their Europe trips during summer and the year-end.

New Service Fees by Country

According to The Economic Times, the service fees now vary depending on the country:

Germany – ₹1,933

Switzerland – ₹2,690

Portugal – ₹3,111

France – ₹2,234

Austria – ₹2,274

In addition to this mandatory service fee, travellers may also need to pay extra for optional services like courier delivery, SMS updates, or premium lounge access, with charges differing by country.

Currently, the Schengen visa application fee for adults remains around ₹8,000–10,000, but the VFS service fee has to be paid separately.

VFS Global has confirmed the hike in Switzerland’s Schengen visa fee but hasn’t clarified changes for other countries yet.

What is a Schengen Visa?

A Schengen visa allows you to travel to 29 European countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

Applicants must provide documents such as their travel plan, insurance, and proof of finances.

Since most embassies no longer accept applications directly, travellers are required to apply through VFS Global, making the service fee mandatory.
