These new rules will mainly affect education-related payments and wallet load transactions.

So, if you pay school or college fees or add money to digital wallets using your SBI Card, you might end up paying more.

The good news? If you make payments directly to institutions—like through the school or college’s official website or their on-campus swipe machines—no extra fee will be charged.

1% Fee on Education Payments Through Third-Party Apps

From November 1, paying school or college fees through third-party apps or aggregators will attract a 1% charge on the total transaction amount.

For example, if you pay ₹10,000 in school fees using a payment app instead of the school’s website, you’ll be charged ₹100 as a fee.

However, SBI Card has confirmed that if you pay directly via the institution’s website or POS machine, you will not be charged this 1% fee.

So, to save money, it’s best to use the official payment options provided by the institution.

Wallet Loads Above ₹1,000 Will Attract Fees Too

The new rule doesn’t stop at education payments. SBI Card will also start charging 1% on wallet load transactions exceeding ₹1,000.

This means if you add ₹2,000 to your digital wallet, ₹20 will be deducted as a fee.

While this might seem small, frequent wallet top-ups can add up over time and become a burden for regular users.
