Registered Post Joins Speed Post from Sept 1 (Know How It Benefits You)

Speed Post Update: The Postal Department has announced a major change. Starting from September 1, 2025, registered post and speed post services will be merged.

This means all domestic registered posts will now be handled as speed post.

Why Was This Change Made?

According to the Postal Department, the goal is to simplify services, improve the tracking system, and provide better customer experience.

Speed post is known for fast delivery, while registered post is valued for its secure delivery. Since both offer similar features, merging them will make the process more efficient.

What Will Change After September 1, 2025?

Registered post labels will no longer be used.

All domestic mail will now be sent via speed post.

Features like proof of delivery and receiver’s signature, which were earlier part of registered post, will now be added features in speed post.

Speed post already has real-time tracking, which helps customers know the status of their parcel more easily.

New Charges Based on Weight and Distance:

Up to 50 grams:

Local: ₹15

Up to 200 km / 1000 km / over 2000 km: ₹35

51 to 200 grams:

Local: ₹25

Up to 200 km: ₹35

201 to 1000 km: ₹40

1001 to 2000 km: ₹60

Over 2000 km: ₹70

201 to 500 grams:

Local: ₹30

Up to 200 km: ₹50

201 to 1000 km: ₹60

1001 to 2000 km: ₹80

Over 2000 km: ₹90

More than 500 grams:

For every extra 500 grams or part thereof:

Local: ₹10

Up to 200 km: ₹15

201 to 1000 km: ₹30

1001 to 2000 km: ₹40

Over 2000 km: ₹50

Speed Post Delivery Timelines:

Local: 1–2 days

Metro to Metro: 1–3 days

Capital to Capital: 1–4 days

Within Same State: 1–4 days

Rest of India: 4–5 days
(Branch offices may take one extra day.)

Discounts for Walk-in Customers:

Bookings between ₹2,000 to ₹1 lakh per day: 5% discount

Bookings above ₹1 lakh per day: 10% discount
(Applies when sending from the same address.)

Important Advice for Customers:

People who used to use registered post should now check with the post office before sending items via speed post.

This is especially important if you need written proof of delivery or other specific services.
