There’s great news for people who frequently order food online—Rapido is entering the food delivery market, giving customers a third major option after Swiggy and Zomato.
The service will first roll out in Bangalore. With Rapido’s entry, competition in the online food delivery space is expected to increase, benefiting both users and restaurants.
Rapido’s New Service to Be Called ‘Ownly’
Rapido will launch its food delivery service under the name ‘Ownly’, although this name may change before the official launch.
The main goal of the company is to offer affordable meals to users. Many restaurants have accused Swiggy and Zomato of charging high commissions and giving preferential treatment to certain outlets.
These concerns have made restaurant owners look forward to a new platform like Rapido.
A New Alternative for Customers
In the past, Thrive, backed by Coca-Cola, also tried to enter the food delivery market, but it didn’t succeed.
However, other smaller players like ONDC (government-backed), Magicpin (with Zomato’s investment), Zepto Cafe, Blinkit Bistro, and Swish are growing slowly.
Even though they offer alternatives, they haven’t yet become strong competitors to Swiggy or Zomato. Rapido’s entry is expected to bring a real challenge.
Lower Costs Compared to Swiggy and Zomato
Rapido’s main focus will be cost-cutting—helping restaurants and customers alike. The company aims to keep food prices the same online and offline.
According to Rapido’s proposal, the dish price before GST will be the final amount that customers pay.
There will be no extra charges from Rapido or the restaurants, making pricing more transparent.
Food Under ₹150 and Affordable Delivery Charges
Rapido will charge a flat delivery fee of ₹25 (excluding GST) for orders above ₹100, and ₹20 for orders ₹100 or less.
This applies to deliveries within a 4 km radius. Importantly, restaurants will bear the delivery charges, not the customers.
During the early days of the launch, customers will only pay for the food and GST, nothing extra.
Rapido has also told its partner restaurants to provide at least four food options under ₹150 to keep meals affordable for a wide range of users.
