The Railways has set a limit for passengers who book luggage with AC and non-AC tickets.
Domestic goods (household items) and non-domestic or business goods can only be booked in parcel vans up to a prescribed limit.
Domestic goods can be booked in larger quantities, while non-domestic goods have a lower booking limit.
This order has been issued by Railway Board’s Joint Director Passenger Marketing, Rohit Kumar, and it will remain effective till 30 June 2026.
An exemption is available in transfer cases—if someone is transferred to another city, they can carry more household goods than the fixed limit.
Rules for Using This Facility
This facility is available on both AC and non-AC class tickets.
Permission from the railway’s commercial supervisor is required.
It can only be used for household goods, not for non-household or business items.
Parcel booking is allowed only at stations where the train halts for at least five minutes.
However, this system also benefits passengers of trains that stop for less than five minutes.
For example, trains like Amritsar-Howrah Mail, Nauchandi, and Triveni Express, which halt for just two minutes, will also get this facility.
Weight Limit for Luggage
According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Kuldeep Tiwari, instructions have been issued to all parcel stations. Under the new rules:
Passengers with non-AC tickets can carry up to 500 kg of household goods.
Passengers with AC tickets can carry up to 1000 kg of household goods.
