Big Relief for Railway Employees! Indian Railways has announced a major benefit for its employees whose salary accounts are with State Bank of India (SBI).
Now, these employees will receive accidental death insurance coverage of up to ₹1 crore — without paying any extra premium or undergoing any medical tests.
This agreement was signed between Indian Railways and SBI in the presence of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav.
What Was the Earlier Insurance Cover?
Under the Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme (CGEGIS):
Group A employees had cover of only ₹1.20 lakh
Group B employees had cover of ₹60,000
Group C employees had cover of ₹30,000
What Does the New Insurance Cover Offer?
Accidental death: ₹1 crore
Natural death: ₹10 lakh
Air accident: Up to ₹1.60 crore
Additional cover: Up to ₹1 crore on RuPay Debit Card
Permanent total disability: Compensation up to ₹1 crore
Permanent partial disability: Coverage up to ₹80 lakh
Who Will Benefit?
Approximately 7 lakh railway employees with SBI salary accounts will benefit from this new scheme.
This is especially significant for frontline employees, such as those in Group C.
