Punjab residents are set to receive a major New Year benefit from the state government.

Under a new health initiative, every family in Punjab will be eligible for cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh.

This is double the earlier limit of ₹5 lakh. The Chief Minister’s Health Scheme will be launched on January 15, and around 6.5 million families are expected to benefit.

According to Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, the scheme will cover 100 percent of Punjab’s population, with no income limits or exclusions.

What Does the Chief Minister’s Health Scheme Offer?

Under this scheme, cashless treatment will be available at a wide network of hospitals.

These include 212 government hospitals, 8 central government hospitals, and over 600 private hospitals across the state.

The government has partnered with United India Insurance, which will provide insurance coverage for the scheme.

Treatment for around 2,200 diseases will be covered, ensuring that families do not have to worry about major medical expenses.

Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal will officially launch the scheme on January 15.

How to Get the Chief Minister’s Health Card

To make sure everyone can easily join the scheme, the government will set up over 9,000 enrollment camps across Punjab.

Eligible residents can visit these camps to get their health card made.

In addition, registration will also be available through Public Service Centres (CSC).

After successful registration, beneficiaries will receive the MMSY health card. A helpline number will also be launched soon to assist people with any issues.

Documents Required for the Health Card

To apply for the health card, the applicant must be a permanent resident of Punjab. Only two documents are required:

Aadhaar card

Voter ID card with a Punjab address

This new scheme replaces the earlier Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme, which was linked to Ayushman Bharat.

The older scheme was not universal and offered coverage of only ₹5 lakh, while the new one provides ₹10 lakh coverage for every family, regardless of income.

This initiative marks a major step toward universal healthcare in Punjab.
