The government has announced the list of holidays for central employees for 2025, which includes two categories: gazetted (mandatory) and restricted (optional).
Gazetted holidays are the 17 mandatory holidays observed across all government offices, including major national days and religious festivals.
In addition, there are 34 restricted holidays, which employees can choose based on their preference.
While gazetted holidays are compulsory for all government offices, restricted holidays are optional and depend on the employee’s choice.
This list is recognized in all government offices, allowing employees to plan their work and holidays in advance.
List of holidays for government employees in the year 2025
The government has announced the list of holidays for central employees for the year 2025.
It includes both public holidays (Gazetted Holidays) and restricted holidays (Restricted Holidays 2025).
The list includes 17 gazetted holidays and 34 restricted holidays. Gazetted holidays are mandatory in the government calendar.

List of Optional Holidays
In addition, each employee has 12 optional holidays, from which they can choose to take up to 3 days off. Here is the list of optional holidays.
Employees can select these optional holidays based on their personal religious, cultural, or family celebrations.
This list allows Central Government employees the flexibility to take leave for their important festivals and special occasions.
