The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is preparing for a major technology upgrade called EPFO 3.0.

This revamp aims to transform how crores of EPF members access services, using a new portal, upgraded backend software, and AI-powered tools to communicate in regional languages.

According to officials, EPFO 3.0 will move the system closer to a core banking-style platform, similar to what modern banks use, making services faster, more scalable, and more accessible.

What EPFO 3.0 Means for Members

With the new system, members can expect:

Centralized operations: Service requests and grievances can be handled from any EPFO office in India, no matter where your account is registered.

Faster and scalable services: The backend system will manage millions of accounts efficiently, including both organized and unorganized workers.

Vernacular language support: AI-based translation tools like Bhashini will allow EPFO to communicate with members in their native languages, improving accessibility.

Currently, EPFO manages nearly 8 crore active members and a corpus of around ₹28 lakh crore, making this upgrade critical for handling future growth.

Technology and Implementation

EPFO is finalizing a tender to appoint an agency to implement and maintain the new IT platform.

Top companies like Wipro, Infosys, and TCS have already been shortlisted.

The ongoing EPFO 2.0 reforms are also nearing completion.

Features like UPI-linked withdrawals are expected to be rolled out by April 2026.

This will allow members to:

Check total EPF balance and eligible withdrawal amounts

Withdraw up to ₹25,000 per transaction initially

Maintain a minimum balance of 25%

Withdraw for essential needs, housing, or special circumstances

Additionally, members can now self-correct personal details like name, date of birth, gender, and marital status without employer verification.

In 2025, around 32.23 lakh profile corrections were already made using this facility.

A More Inclusive and Bank-Like EPFO

EPFO 3.0 is expected to make the provident fund system faster, more user-friendly, and accessible in multiple languages.

It also prepares the organization to cover millions of unorganized workers under India’s social security net.

In short, EPFO 3.0 is a big step toward modern, inclusive, and efficient retirement fund services for all members.
