Who Cannot Open a Jan Dhan Account?

Since this scheme is designed mainly for the poor and underprivileged, some people have been excluded from it:

People working in central or state government jobs are not allowed to open a Jan Dhan account.

Individuals who pay income tax are also not eligible for this scheme.

Who Can Open a Jan Dhan Account?

Any Indian citizen aged 10 years or above can open a Jan Dhan account. However, insurance benefits under this scheme are only available to those between 18 and 59 years of age.

This account can be opened with zero balance, meaning there is no need to keep a minimum amount in it. The main aim of PMJDY is to include poor families in the formal banking system.

How to Open a Jan Dhan Account?

Step 1: Visit any nearby government or private bank and ask for the Jan Dhan Yojana account opening form.

Step 3: Submit the completed form to the bank officer. After document verification, your account will be opened in a few days.
