This scheme is designed mainly for the poor and underprivileged. Hence, certain groups of people are not eligible to open a Jan Dhan account:

Who Can Open a Jan Dhan Account?

Any Indian citizen who is 10 years or older can open a Jan Dhan account. However, insurance benefits under this scheme are only for people between 18 to 59 years of age.

This account comes with zero balance, so you don’t need to keep any minimum money in it.

The main aim of PMJDY is to bring the economically weaker population into the formal banking system.

Step 1: Visit a nearby government or private bank branch and ask for the Jan Dhan account opening form.

Step 2: Fill out the form and attach photocopies of your Aadhaar card, address proof, and other necessary documents. Keep the originals with you for verification.

Step 3: Submit the form to the bank officer. After your documents are verified, the account will be opened in a few days.
