The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) aims to ensure that every citizen in India has a pucca house. Launched in June 2015, PMAY covers both rural (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin – PMAY-G) and urban (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban – PMAY-U) areas.
The scheme offers subsidies on home loans, with the subsidy amount depending on the size of the house and the applicant’s income.
Banks are encouraged to provide home loans at low interest rates, with a maximum repayment period of 20 years. Over the last decade, more than 4.1 crore houses have been built under PMAY.
