PM Awas Yojana: Who Benefits and How Names are Decided in the List?

The government runs several schemes to help those who do not own a house.

One such initiative is the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), aimed at providing permanent homes to poor and needy families.

The survey under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin 2.0 ended on May 15, 2025, which means no new applications are being accepted anymore.

Verification of applications

Now that the survey is complete, all applications will be verified at the district level. If your documents are found to be correct, your name will be added to the list of beneficiaries.

However, if any errors are found in your application, your name won’t be included.

Once the verification is done, a list will be prepared and sent to the Rural Development Department of the states. After that, the housing construction process will begin.

How to check your name in the list?

To check if your name is in the beneficiary list, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana website: pmayg.gov.in

  2. On the homepage, click on the “Stakeholders” tab.

  3. Select the “IAY/PMAYG Beneficiary” option.

  4. Enter your registration number, fill in the captcha, and click submit.

Who gets priority?

A priority list will be made for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAYG) based on certain criteria set by the Gram Panchayat or counseling.

Priority will be given to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and women. The government has stated that 60% of the houses will be allotted to SC/ST categories.

If your name doesn’t appear in the initial list, don’t worry. If you meet all the eligibility criteria, your name might be added to the waiting list.

How long before the house is built?

Housing construction will begin once the Rural Development Department receives the final list.

The timeline for when you will get a permanent house depends on the number of applications from your village or district and the budget allocated to your state by the central government.

If there are a lot of applicants, you may have to wait a little longer. Once the budget is received, targets will be set for each district, and construction work will start within approximately three months.
