Good news for those dreaming of becoming a pilot! The process of getting a pilot license in India is now simpler.
The government has empowered the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to conduct the RTR (Radio Telephone Restricted) examination under the Indian Aircraft Act, making it easier for aspiring pilots and improving the ease of doing business in the aviation sector.
DGCA Will Now Handle RTR Exam
Earlier, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) conducted the RTR exam. Now, this responsibility has been handed over to DGCA.
One-Stop Process for Pilot Licensing
According to the minister, with both the Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and RTR license now being issued by DGCA, pilot applicants will no longer need to deal with two separate government bodies.
Who Needs to Take the RTR Exam?
As per the Department of Telecommunications, the RTR exam is essential for those using radio communication equipment in the aviation sector. This includes:
Pilots
Air Traffic Controllers (ATC)
Aeronautical Radio Operators
Until now, the exam was conducted by the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) wing of DoT in partnership with DGCA.
For anyone applying for a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) in India, clearing the RTR exam is mandatory.
