The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has rolled out a new feature to make customs payments faster and easier.
Businesses can now pay duties on the ICEGATE platform using modern digital methods like UPI and cards.
This move is aimed at improving ease of doing business and speeding up the overall process.
Pay Customs Duty with UPI, Cards and More
With the new payment aggregator system, businesses now have more flexibility.
You can now pay customs duty using:
Unified Payments Interface (UPI)
Credit cards
Debit cards
Internet banking (now supports 41 banks, up from 23 earlier)
This new option works alongside existing methods like NEFT/RTGS through the Reserve Bank of India.
Faster and Smoother Transactions
The system is designed to make payments quicker and more efficient.
Payments are processed instantly
Money is routed through the electronic cash ledger
Duties are updated without delays
The electronic cash ledger, introduced in 2023, helps businesses manage deposits and payments smoothly on the platform.
A Big Step Towards Digital Customs
Experts believe this is a major improvement in India’s digital infrastructure.
With more payment options:
Businesses face fewer delays
Transactions become simpler
Cash flow management improves
It also reduces dependence on a limited number of banks, which was a major bottleneck earlier.
Why This Matters for Businesses
This update is especially helpful for small and medium businesses.
UPI is easy to use and widely available
Many transactions come with low or zero charges
Payments can be made quickly, even in urgent situations
Overall, the new system brings speed, flexibility, and convenience to customs payments—making trade smoother and more efficient.
