This extension applies to those who were allotted PAN based on the enrollment ID from their Aadhaar application form submitted before 1 October 2024.

Other normal PAN holders are still required to link their PAN with Aadhaar, but with a penalty. The previous deadline to link PAN and Aadhaar without a penalty was 30 June 2023.

Key Points from the CBDT Notification:

The new notification, issued on April 3, specifies that individuals who have been allotted PAN based on their Aadhaar enrollment ID before 1 October 2024 must inform the Income Tax Department (ITD) of their Aadhaar number by 31 December 2025.

The notification gives the CBDT the authority to extend or modify this deadline as needed.

How to Link PAN with Aadhaar:

The process to link PAN and Aadhaar remains the same, whether done online or offline.

Online Method: You can link PAN with Aadhaar directly through the Income Tax Department’s official website.

Offline Method: Alternatively, you can visit the PAN service centers operated by NSDL or UTIITSL.

To do this, you need to fill out Form ‘Annexure-I and submit supporting documents like a copy of your PAN card and Aadhaar card.

Important Reminder: Avoid Mismatches

For successful linking of PAN and Aadhaar, the demographic details (such as name, gender, and date of birth) on both documents must match.

If there is any mismatch, the linking will be canceled. You can correct these discrepancies by updating either your PAN or Aadhaar details.

This new extension provides some relief to those who were allotted PAN based on Aadhaar enrollment before October 2024, but it’s essential to act within the extended deadline to avoid penalties and ensure your details are correctly linked.
