OpenAI to Launch Jobs Platform in 2026 to Rival LinkedIn

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has announced that it will launch the OpenAI Jobs Platform in 2026.

The platform will connect businesses with AI-skilled workers, directly competing with Microsoft-owned LinkedIn.

How the Platform Will Work

According to Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s newly appointed CEO of applications, the platform will use AI-powered matching to connect employers with suitable candidates.

“The goal is to help find the perfect matches between what companies need and what workers can offer,” Simo said.

The platform will also support small businesses and local governments, helping them hire AI-ready workers to speed up digital transformation.

The Texas Association of Business has already shown interest in using it for thousands of employers.

AI Certification for Job Seekers

To make sure workers are truly skilled, OpenAI will introduce an AI certification program through its OpenAI Academy.

A pilot program will begin in late 2025, covering everything from basic AI knowledge to advanced prompt engineering.

Retail giant Walmart is among the first partners and plans to integrate the certification into its workforce training.

Preparation for these certifications will be available directly in ChatGPT’s Study Mode, making learning interactive and accessible.

Tackling AI Job Disruption

The launch comes as debates grow around AI’s impact on jobs.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently predicted that AI could eliminate up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs by 2030.

Simo admitted that OpenAI “cannot eliminate disruption,” but the company’s goal is to help workers become AI-fluent and discover new opportunities.

Competition with LinkedIn

This move is significant because LinkedIn cofounder Reid Hoffman, once an early OpenAI backer, stepped down from OpenAI’s board in 2023 to avoid conflicts with his own AI ventures.

Now, OpenAI is entering LinkedIn’s space directly, offering both hiring solutions for companies and upskilling for workers.

By combining AI-powered recruitment with trusted certification, OpenAI aims to change how people are trained, verified, and hired in the new AI-driven economy.
