If you don’t have an Aadhaar card yet, you can start the application process from home. However, you will need to visit an Aadhaar center once for the biometric verification.
The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has made the process very simple.
You can fill the form, book an appointment, and choose your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra using just your smartphone or laptop.
Why Is Aadhaar Card Important?
Aadhaar is required for:
- Opening a bank account
- Getting a new SIM card
- Applying for a passport
- Availing government schemes
It’s also needed for benefits like pension schemes, scholarships, and subsidies. Aadhaar is not just an ID but also a proof of your digital identity.
Steps to Apply for Aadhaar Card from Home
You can start the Aadhaar application online through the UIDAI website. Here’s how:
1. Visit the UIDAI Website – Go to https://uidai.gov.in. In the “My Aadhaar” section, click on “Book an Appointment”.
2. Choose City and Service Center – Select your city and the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. Then, choose “New Aadhaar” as your service type.
3. Fill the Aadhaar Application Form – Enter your basic details like name, date of birth, address, and mobile number. An OTP will be sent to your mobile for verification.
4. Provide Document Information – You need to fill in details of your documents for identity, address, and date of birth proof. These documents must be carried in physical form on the day of the appointment.
5. Book Date and Time – Select a convenient date and time slot. On this day, you’ll need to visit the center for biometric data collection.
What Happens at the Aadhaar Center?
At the Aadhaar center, you will go through the biometric process, which includes:
- Taking your photograph
- Capturing your fingerprints
- Iris (eye) scan
- Document verification
After the process, you will receive an enrollment slip with a number. You can use this to check the status online.
When Will You Get Your Aadhaar Card?
Your Aadhaar card is usually ready within 15 to 30 days.
You can either download the PDF version from UIDAI’s website or order a physical copy by post.
What Are the Charges?
New Aadhaar application is free of cost.
If you update your Aadhaar (like address, mobile number, etc.), you may be charged ₹50 to ₹100.
