NRIs can now use Paytm for UPI payments without an Indian SIM

Paytm has introduced a new feature that allows Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to link their international mobile numbers with the app for UPI payments in India.

This feature, currently in beta, is aimed at making financial transactions smoother for NRIs without needing an Indian SIM card.

Make in-store payments by scanning UPI QR codes

Transactions are processed in Indian rupees and come without foreign exchange conversion fees or international gateway charges.

Currently, this feature is available for NRIs in 12 countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, UAE, UK, and the US.

How NRIs Can Get Started

Download the Paytm app and log in with your international mobile number.

Confirm the phone number via SMS.

Connect your NRE or NRO bank account.

Start making UPI payments at online stores, merchant locations, or by scanning QR codes.

In addition, Paytm also supports UPI One World, a wallet solution for safe digital payments in India without a local bank account.

Indian users and NRIs can also pay at select foreign merchants through UPI Global Acceptance.

Users can track balances, hide payments, access spending analysis, and download UPI statements in PDF or Excel.

Summary

With this new beta feature, NRIs from 12 countries can now link their international mobile numbers to NRE/NRO accounts for UPI payments in India.

This makes it easy to transact in Indian rupees without forex or gateway fees, expanding Paytm’s global reach and improving financial connectivity for NRIs worldwide.
