The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has made it easier to pay using biometrics.
Now, whether you have an Android phone or iPhone, you can make payments on any payment app without entering a UPI PIN.
Earlier, this feature was limited to Android apps like Amazon Pay and PhonePe.
Now, all UPI apps support biometric payments, including iPhones, which can use Face ID.
To use this feature, make sure your app is updated and your bank supports biometric payments.
How Biometric Payments Work
With this new feature, the payment method is changing. Instead of entering a 4-digit UPI PIN, users can now pay using:
Fingerprint sensor (for most Android devices)
Face ID (for iPhones)
For security reasons, biometric payments are limited to ₹5,000.
Payments above this amount still require your UPI PIN.
Benefits of Biometric Payments
Biometric payments make UPI transactions faster and more secure, especially during peak hours.
Since most UPI payments are under ₹5,000, this feature will speed up daily transactions and reduce failures.
Android users: Use your fingerprint sensor for payments.
iPhone users: Use Face ID, as Touch ID is no longer available.
Android face unlock: Not used for payments due to lower security.
How to Set Up Biometric Payments
Setting up this feature is simple:
Update your payment app (PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM, etc.) to the latest version.
Open the app and look for Biometric Payment or Pay with Face ID.
Select your bank account for enabling the feature.
Enter your UPI PIN once to activate biometric payments.
After this, you can pay quickly using just your fingerprint or face, making transactions faster and hassle-free.
