Noida International Airport has been eagerly awaited by lakhs of people. Though its launch has seen several delays since its foundation in November 2021, the airport is now expected to start operations in September 2025.
This timeline was shared by Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi.
Minister Confirms Timeline
In a meeting with the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), the minister said that earlier governments (SP and BSP) only used the airport as an election promise.
However, in the last eight years, real work has been done on the ground.
He confirmed that:
The airport will be fully ready by November 2025
Cargo and domestic flights will start by September 2025
International flights will begin from November 2025
He also added that Noida Airport will be Asia’s largest and the world’s fourth-largest airport once completed.
Reasons Behind the Delay
Initially, the airport was expected to be completed by September 2024.
Later, the deadline was shifted to April, then May–June.
In March, CM Yogi Adityanath had announced:
Domestic flights would begin on May 15
International flights on June 25
Now, officials have revised the timeline again:
Domestic and cargo flights: Starting from September 15
Full international services: From November
Current Status of Construction
The project is about 80% complete
Runway and airside work: 90% done
Terminal roofing and interiors are progressing quickly
750 meters of connecting roads to Yamuna Expressway are ready
Water and sewage plants, which were 40% complete in March, have sped up
ATC building and CNS/ATM systems are almost ready
Some Approvals Still Pending
Despite nearing completion, the airport is still waiting for:
Aerodrome licence from the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation)
Security clearance from BCAS (Bureau of Civil Aviation Security)
Fine Imposed for Delay
To hold the builder accountable, the government has imposed a fine of ₹10 lakh per month on Yamuna International Airport Private Limited for delays—effective from January 1, 2025.
Once completed, this will become Delhi-NCR’s second major commercial airport after IGI (Indira Gandhi International Airport).
While Hindon Terminal in Ghaziabad also operates flights to major cities, it functions under the Indian Air Force.
