This Diwali, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a new and thoughtful feature on its ‘Rajmargyatra’ app — users can now gift the FASTag annual pass to friends and family.
Calling it the “perfect gift for travellers,” the government announced that the feature is designed to make highway travel more convenient and cash-free during the festive season.
How to Activate a FASTag Annual Pass
Activating the FASTag annual pass is quick and simple. Here’s how it works:
Open the Rajmargyatra app and select “Add Pass.”
Enter the recipient’s vehicle number and contact details.
Complete a short OTP verification to confirm.
Once activated, the pass is linked to the vehicle’s FASTag, allowing smooth toll payments without the need for frequent recharges.
The pass can be used across 1,150 toll plazas throughout India.
FASTag Annual Pass Cost and Validity
The FASTag annual pass costs ₹3,000 and remains valid for one year or up to 200 toll crossings, whichever comes first.
It can be purchased for any non-commercial vehicle with a valid FASTag.
After a one-time payment through the Rajmargyatra app, the pass is activated within two hours on the existing FASTag.
Once the limit is used, the tag automatically switches back to the standard pay-per-trip mode.
At point-based toll plazas, a one-way trip counts as one crossing, while a return counts as two.
For closed or ticketed highways, a complete entry-to-exit journey is treated as one trip.
Note: The annual pass can only be activated on FASTags that have a registered vehicle number.
If your FASTag is still linked to a chassis number (common for new vehicles), you’ll need to update it before purchasing the pass.
Payment Options and Growing Popularity
Payments can be made via UPI, debit card, credit card, or net banking.
However, the FASTag wallet balance cannot be used for this purchase.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the FASTag annual pass has already gained over 25 lakh users and processed more than 5.6 crore transactions within just two months of launch — proving its growing popularity among highway travellers.
With the new gifting feature, the FASTag annual pass has become not just a travel essential but also a smart and practical gift option for frequent commuters this festive season.
