New Zealand has launched a Golden Visa for wealthy individuals who want to gain residency by investing in the country and planning to build a home.
Officially called the Business Investor Work Visa, applications opened on November 24.
This visa allows investors to live in New Zealand for up to four years while pursuing business opportunities.
Investment Options and Residency Path
Investors have two options to obtain residency through this visa:
NZD 1 million investment – Residency granted after 3 years
NZD 2 million fast-track investment – Residency granted after 12 months
The visa also allows investors to bring partners and dependent children to New Zealand.
Applicants must be experienced businesspeople who can contribute to New Zealand’s economy. Eligible businesses should have been operating for at least five years.
Applicants must also provide a reserve fund of NZD 500,000 for living expenses, be under 55 years of age, and demonstrate strong business experience—either managing a company with at least five employees or generating annual revenues of NZD 1 million.
Applying for the Business Investor Resident Visa
After meeting the investment and business operation requirements, investors can apply for the Business Investor Resident Visa.
They must prove their ability to:
Maintain ownership in the business
Create at least one full-time job for a New Zealand citizen or resident
Repay any business debt
The New Zealand government emphasizes that it welcomes visionary investors who can grow businesses and create new opportunities in the country.
Other Visa Updates
Alongside the Golden Visa, New Zealand also offers the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
Starting December 8, the government will introduce two new seasonal visa categories under AEWV:
Global Workforce Seasonal Visa (GWSV)
Peak Seasonal Visa (PSV)
These visas aim to simplify hiring international workers for short-term roles while ensuring local employment is protected.
