New SBI card rules coming from november 1 (Check What’s Changing)

India’s top credit card company, SBI Card, has announced new changes in its fee structure starting November 1, 2025.

These changes will affect education-related payments and wallet top-ups made using SBI credit cards.

However, there’s also some good news — reward points for online shopping will continue as before.

1% Fee on Education Payments via Third-Party Apps

From November onwards, SBI Cardholders will have to pay a 1% fee for making education-related payments through third-party apps or platforms.

For example, if you pay school or college fees using an app instead of the institution’s own payment system, this extra charge will apply.

However, payments made directly to schools or colleges — through their official websites or POS machines — will remain free from this fee.

SBI Card says this change is meant to reduce unnecessary costs and promote direct payments to educational institutions.

Extra Charges for Wallet Top-Ups Above ₹1,000

If you often add money to digital wallets using your SBI credit card, there’s another important update.

SBI Card will now charge a 1% fee on wallet load transactions above ₹1,000.

This means if you top up your wallet (like Paytm or PhonePe) for more than ₹1,000, the extra fee will apply.

The company’s move appears aimed at discouraging frequent wallet top-ups used for cashback or points benefits.

Reward Points on Ajio and JioMart to Continue

Amid these fee changes, SBI Cardholders can still enjoy bonus reward points for online shopping.

Since October 1, 2025, users of the Reliance SBI Card PRIME earn 20 reward points per ₹100 spent on Ajio and JioMart.

Other SBI Card users get 10 reward points per ₹100 spent.

These rewards apply only to direct purchases made through the official Ajio or JioMart platforms and are subject to standard terms and conditions.

Other Updates and What You Should Do

SBI Card has also migrated CPP (Card Protection Plan) customers to new plan variants with revised pricing and benefits, effective September 16, 2025.

Tips for Cardholders:

Avoid third-party apps for education payments to save the 1% charge.

Keep wallet top-ups under ₹1,000 to skip extra fees.

Shop on Ajio and JioMart using your SBI Card to make the most of your reward points.
