If you’re tired of listening to songs and watching movies on YouTube, there’s a new way to have fun: gaming! YouTube has introduced a new feature called “Playables” for Android, iOS, and web users.
After a year of testing, this feature is now available, offering light, interactive games directly within the YouTube app, enhancing the platform’s entertainment options.
What is YouTube Playables?
YouTube Playables is a new feature that offers free-to-play, light games within the YouTube app. These games are available on both the YouTube mobile app and desktop web version, requiring no additional downloads or installations.
Currently, there are over 75 games available on YouTube Playables, catering to various interests. Popular games include “Angry Birds Showdown,” “Cut the Rope,” and “Trivia Crack.”
The games are categorized into Action, Sports, Brain & Puzzle, Arcade, RPG & Strategy, Board & Card, Trivia & Word, and Simulation.
How to Access Playables
To start playing games on Playables, look for a dedicated carousel on the YouTube home page. Alternatively, you can access the Playables through the new destination page found in the Explore menu under the Podcasts hub.
Once there, browse and select from a variety of games, and gameplay will start immediately upon clicking any game card.
Each game interface includes controls to exit, mute or unmute audio, save the game, and access additional options via an overflow menu.
YouTube Premium users can enjoy videos playing in the background while gaming, whereas non-Premium users will hear the game audio by default.
Availability and Supported Devices
Currently, YouTube Playables is available to select users in the United States, Great Britain, Canada, and Australia as part of an experimental rollout.
More users in these regions will gain access in the coming months, and some may access games through unique shareable links even if the Playables section is not visible yet.
To play YouTube Playables games, ensure you have the latest version of the YouTube app and a compatible device:
Android devices: YouTube app version 18.33 or higher, running on Android S and above, or Android O, P, Q, R on 64-bit or high-memory 32-bit devices.
iOS devices: YouTube app version 18.33 or higher, running on iOS 14 and above.
Desktop Web: Supported on Chrome, Safari, and Firefox browsers.
