On January 28, UIDAI launched the full version of its Aadhaar app with a fresh design and new features.
One major addition is the option to verify another person’s Aadhaar directly through the app.
Along with this, the overall layout has changed, and many options have been repositioned.
This update has raised an important question for users—has the process of updating mobile numbers, addresses, or managing biometrics changed? Let’s understand everything step by step.
How to Register on the New Aadhaar App
Even though the app design has changed, the registration process remains the same.
If you are using the Aadhaar app for the first time, download it from the Play Store or App Store and follow these steps:
Open the app and tap on Continue to Register on the home screen.
Enter your Aadhaar number and accept the terms and conditions.
Tap Continue to Send SMS to link the app with your SIM.
Once your mobile number is verified, tap Continue.
Proceed with Face Authentication and complete the process.
The app will fetch and verify your Aadhaar details.
Set a secure PIN for the app.
After completing these steps, your registration will be successful, and you can start using the Aadhaar app.
How to Update Mobile Number in Aadhaar App
In the new version, the mobile number update option is now located under the Services tab at the bottom of the screen.
Go to Services and tap on Mobile Number Update.
Click on Continue to Update Mobile Number.
Enter the new mobile number you want to link.
Verify the OTP sent to the new number.
Complete the authentication as instructed in the app.
Once verified, your request will be submitted to UIDAI.
The update may take up to 15 days, and a fee of Rs 75 will be charged.
How to Update Address in the New Aadhaar App
You can also update your Aadhaar address from the Services tab.
Tap on Address Update and choose your preferred method.
You can update using your own documents like an electricity bill or use a family member’s Aadhaar.
If updating using documents:
Select Using Your Documents.
Tap Continue to Update Address.
Choose the document you want to upload.
Verify the new address details.
Complete Face Authentication.
Make the payment and submit your request.
This process may take up to 15 days, with a fee of Rs 75.
How to Update Aadhaar Address Using a Family Member’s Aadhaar
If you want to update your address using a family member’s Aadhaar, you will need their Aadhaar number.
Select Using Family Member’s Aadhaar.
Tap Continue to Update Aadhaar.
Enter the family member’s details.
Complete Face Authentication.
Make the payment and submit the request.
This update also takes around 15 days and costs Rs 75.
How to Lock or Unlock Biometrics in the New Aadhaar App
The biometric lock option is now easily accessible on the home screen.
On the home page, locate Biometrics Unlocked below your Aadhaar QR code.
Tap on it and select Confirm Biometric Lock.
Click Yes, Confirm.
Your biometric data will now be locked, helping protect it from misuse.
You can unlock it anytime by following the same steps.
