The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation has rolled out a new system to make travel easier and more transparent.

The Government of Maharashtra has introduced the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC).

This smart card will help passengers—especially senior citizens—enjoy cashless and hassle-free travel across the state’s bus network.

NCMC Card Now Mandatory for Discounts

Under the new rules, passengers will need the NCMC smart card to get travel concessions.

This applies to:

Senior citizens

Students

Women

Persons with disabilities

Earlier, people could show documents like Aadhaar to get discounts.

Now, the system has become fully digital, removing manual checks and making the process faster and more reliable.

Big Relief for Senior Citizens

The new card brings major convenience for elderly passengers.

Instead of carrying multiple documents, they can now use just one smart card for everything.

Ticketing will also become quicker with contactless technology.

Current benefits for senior citizens include:

50% discount for those aged 65–75

Free travel for those above 75

With digital tracking, these benefits will reach the right people without delays or errors.

Key Features of the Smart Card

The NCMC card is designed to be simple and user-friendly.

Here’s what it offers:

Cost of around ₹199 (including GST)

Minimum balance of ₹100

Easy recharge via apps, websites, or agents

Aadhaar-linked verification for secure access

To make things easier, over 3,000 authorised agents have been deployed to help people register, especially in rural areas.

Why This Change is Important

This move is not just about technology—it’s about better governance.

By digitising the system, the government aims to:

Reduce misuse of travel concessions

Ensure accurate subsidy distribution

Improve transparency and efficiency

It also supports India’s larger goal of smart and integrated transport systems, where one card can be used across different modes of travel.

What to Expect in the Future

As more people start using the NCMC card, it could become the standard way to travel in Maharashtra.

There may be some initial challenges, especially for elderly users adjusting to digital systems.

But over time, the benefits of convenience, speed, and transparency are expected to make travel much easier.

In simple terms, the NCMC card is a step toward modern, cashless, and stress-free public transport, ensuring that benefits reach the right people without complications.
