Usually, Android brands release new software updates first for flagship phones, followed by mid-range and budget models. Motorola, however, has taken a different approach.
The company began the Android 16 rollout with its Edge series and later expanded it to the more affordable Moto G lineup.
Now, there is good news for Motorola users. The brand has released the Android 16 update for one of its older premium phones.
After a long wait, the Razr series has finally started receiving the update, beginning with the Moto Razr 50 Ultra. This phone was launched in India in July 2024.
Android 16 Update Currently Available in Japan
According to a report by GizmoChina, a Reddit user has confirmed that the stable Android 16 update is now available for the Razr 50 Ultra in Japan.
The update was spotted by the team at Ytechb. At the moment, the rollout seems to be limited to Japan only.
However, the update is expected to reach other regions in the coming days. Users of the Razr 50 Ultra around the world are advised to manually check for updates by going to the Software Update section in the Settings app.
Razr 50 Ultra Will Get Another Android Upgrade
Android 16 is the second major Android update for the Moto Razr 50 Ultra. Motorola has promised a total of three major Android upgrades for this device. This means the phone will also receive Android 17 in the future.
In addition, Motorola will continue to provide security updates for the Razr 50 Ultra until at least mid-2028.
What’s New in Android 16 for Razr 50 Ultra?
Although Android 16 is a major update, users may not notice many visual changes. However, the update brings several useful features and improvements.
One of the key additions is the notification cooldown feature. This helps reduce annoyance when an app sends too many notifications in a short time by lowering their frequency.
The Settings app now includes custom modes, allowing users to create different profiles based on activities. There is also a new flash notification feature that flashes the camera or screen when calls or notifications arrive.
The update also introduces Advanced Protection, a set of security tools designed to protect the device from various threats. Additionally, Android 16 improves Bluetooth LE audio support, Wi-Fi connectivity, and overall device stability.
