Mother’s Documents Now compulsory for New Voters

Purnia, Senior Correspondent: Children born after 2004 will now need to submit both their father’s and mother’s documents to become voters.

However, there is a special condition — the mother’s Aadhaar card or voter ID card will not be considered valid. Instead, her educational certificate will be accepted.

If a mother is not educated or does not have an educational certificate, then her child will face problems in becoming a voter.

According to the Election Commission’s rules, youths turning 18 years of age must submit their own educational documents, proof of age

and address, father’s documents, and most importantly, the mother’s educational document.

Birth certificates that mention the parents’ names will also not be accepted. Only the mother’s educational certificate showing her age and birthplace will be valid.

Problems in Online Form Download

According to BLO officials, this rule has been strictly enforced by the Election Commission.

Children born after 2004 must provide both parents’ documents along with their own, plus a recent photograph and signature. The signature must be correct, or else the application may get rejected.

The biggest issue faced right now is the difficulty in downloading Form 6 online, which is creating trouble for applicants as well as BLO officers.
