Microsoft Layoff News: Microsoft, the company founded by Bill Gates, has announced another round of layoffs just two weeks after firing 6,000 employees.
That earlier round was one of the largest job cuts by the company in recent years. Now, more than 300 additional employees have been laid off this Monday.
According to Bloomberg, this news is based on a notice filed in Washington State.
These job cuts are linked to Microsoft’s growing focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI), where the company is investing billions of dollars.
Which Microsoft employees are affected this time?
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that these new layoffs are separate from the 6,000 job cuts made last month.
The spokesperson added that the company is changing its structure to stay competitive in a fast-moving market.
While last month’s layoffs mainly impacted software engineers, Microsoft has not yet shared which roles are affected in this new round.
As of June 2024, Microsoft had 228,000 full-time employees, with 55 percent of them based in the United States.
AI is leading to job cuts
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence is shaking up the tech industry. Companies are now focusing more on AI-related roles and using technology to reduce costs.
Microsoft, along with other companies like Meta, is promoting AI-based coding tools to speed up software development.
Just last week, Salesforce reported that using AI internally has helped them do more work with fewer employees.
