Meta launches New Tool to Protect Creator Content

Meta has introduced a new mobile-only feature to tackle a major problem faced by creators: their reels being copied without permission.

To strengthen content security, Meta has launched a tool called Facebook Content Protection, which automatically detects copied reels and instantly notifies the original creator.

Instant Notification When Your Reel Is Copied

The moment the system identifies a copied Reel, the creator receives an alert.

After getting this notification, creators can choose what to do next — block the copied Reel’s reach, check how it is performing, add their own credit link, or simply ignore the claim.

Meta has also added an allow list feature for creators who permit others to repost their videos, such as partners or collaborators.

However, Instagram Reels can be tracked only if they are also shared on Facebook — either uploaded directly or shared via the “Share to Facebook” option.

Once the Reel is in the Facebook system, the tool scans for copies across both Facebook and Instagram.

Powered by Rights Manager Technology

This feature uses the same advanced technology as Rights Manager.

Creators receive detailed reports showing how closely the content matches their original reel, how many views the copied video has, and the number of followers the other account has.

Content matching is enabled by default, so creators don’t have to turn it on manually.

Meta says this move supports their goal of promoting original and authentic content. Recently, the company removed 10 million fake or plagiarized profiles

and took action against more than 500,000 accounts involved in spam or fake engagement.

This new protection tool will be automatically available to eligible creators in Meta’s monetization program.

Those already using Rights Manager will also have access. They can find these options in their Feed, Professional Dashboard, or profile.

Mobile-Only for Now

For now, this feature is available only on Meta’s mobile app. Meta is also testing whether it can be added to the desktop Professional Dashboard in the future.

Overall, this tool is expected to greatly help creators by protecting their hard work and ensuring they receive proper credit and recognition.
