Meta Introduces New Privacy Controls for Teens on Instagram

Meta has launched new privacy and parental controls for Instagram, focusing on protecting teenage users.

These changes aim to address concerns about the negative impact of social media on children and teens. Instagram continues to make improvements to safeguard younger users.

One of the major updates is that all users under the age of 18 will now have “Teen Accounts.”

These accounts will be private by default, meaning only people they follow can message or tag them.

Additionally, the sensitivity settings for content will be set to the most restricted level, ensuring that teens are not exposed to inappropriate or sensitive content.

Parental Involvement in Settings Changes

Teenagers under 16 will not be able to change their default privacy settings on their own. If they want to make adjustments, they will need parental permission.

Meta is also providing parents with special tools to monitor their children’s activity on Instagram.

Parents can see who their children are interacting with and have the option to limit the use of their accounts.

Research has shown that social media can have harmful effects on young users, including contributing to mental health issues like depression and anxiety.

This is why Meta is making efforts to enhance its apps and services, ensuring they are safer for younger audiences.

Since TikTok was banned in India, Instagram’s user base has grown rapidly, with more people enjoying short videos and reels on the platform.
