After months of buzz, India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has finally entered the electric vehicle space with its first fully electric SUV — the e-Vitara.

But what’s really turning heads is not just the car.

It’s the pricing.

The company has introduced an innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, bringing the starting price down to just ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom) — excluding the battery.

That makes it one of the most affordable electric SUVs in India right now.

A New Way to Buy an EV

The Battery-as-a-Service model changes how buyers pay for the vehicle.

Instead of buying the battery upfront, customers purchase the SUV without it and pay a rental fee of around ₹3.99 per kilometre driven.

This lowers the initial cost significantly.

For many first-time EV buyers, that could make the switch from petrol or diesel much easier.

Bookings have already started with a token amount of ₹21,000.

Deliveries are now rolling out from showrooms across the country.

Full Pricing and Variants Explained

If you prefer to buy the SUV with the battery included, that option is also available.

The e-Vitara’s full price ranges between ₹15.99 lakh and ₹20.01 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and battery pack.

Here’s the variant-wise pricing:

Delta (49 kWh) – ₹15.99 lakh

Zeta (61 kWh) – ₹17.49 lakh

Alpha (61 kWh) – ₹19.79 lakh

Alpha Dual-Tone (61 kWh) – ₹20.01 lakh

Buyers can choose between two battery options — 49 kWh and 61 kWh.

Range, Features and What You Get

The e-Vitara offers a claimed driving range of up to 543 km on a full charge, depending on the battery pack.

It comes loaded with modern features, including advanced infotainment, safety systems, and comfort upgrades.

The bold SUV styling adds to its appeal, especially for urban buyers looking for a futuristic design.

Can It Beat the Competition?

Maruti’s entry into the EV market comes at a time when brands like Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, MG Motor, and VinFast are already offering strong electric SUVs.

Still, Maruti’s trusted brand value and its aggressive pricing strategy could shake up the segment.

For buyers looking for a practical, budget-friendly electric SUV, the e-Vitara might just be the right starting point.
